Launching Catskill, NY,

with the new instrument

Atrium

whimsical raps, stretchmetal, the Atmospheric Music Alliance, 27cafe

The monthly program slowroom, presented by the Atmospheric Music Alliance, is an hour-long gathering of slow music discourse and performance held at 27cafe in Catskill, NY. The evening featured a 20-30 minute drone orchestra with five performers playing Atrium, a brand-new instrument developed by Whimsical Raps.

One of the five performers, Dani Derks from Delhi, NY —Materials Director based in Los Angeles—led a lecture on the use and facilitation of Atrium. The session welcomed both experienced players and those encountering the instrument for the first time, with the goal of exploring Atrium together and sharing the excitement it inspires. Gray Schiller, Executive Director of StretchMetal and a founding member of the Atmospheric Music Alliance, described slowroom as a listening community and emphasized how remarkable it is that a space like 27 Cafe and showroom exists in reality. They stressed the importance of uplifting, supporting, and helping maintain 27 Cafe, and of putting Catskill on the cultural map.

slowroom is held every second Friday at 27 Cafe.
